Ivanna Nejelski (2003°), currently lives and works in Ghent, Belgium. Her practice navigates the space between the performative acts of ‘showing’ and ‘telling,’ resulting in conceptual installations that explore the dynamic relationships between the artwork, the artist, the institution, and the viewer. Her work continuously shifts between the seen and the unseen, the spoken and the unspoken.
Through nomadic and research-driven experiences, she collects personal, political and fictional stories to embed in her conceptual practice. Her installations balances between the real and the fictional, examining the mechanisms by which narratives are framed, owned or kept secret over time and overseas.
Her multimedia practice includes handwritten texts, typed texts,
spoken texts, hidden texts, photography, performances, publications, sculptures, installations and involuntary participations.
